Kevin McCarthy Fails To Win Majority Support As Opposition Says They Would Rather Vote For ‘Deez Nuts’

The battle for the gavel is underway and is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining House speaker races in American history.

Washington, DC — A contentious battle in the House of Representatives is being waged in order to elect a new Speaker of the House.

For the first time since 1923, the House will take more than one vote to find the majority necessary to elect the next speaker. The House clerk has called four votes in order to elect the next speaker, with the fifth vote to take place this afternoon.

With Republicans now controlling the majority of seats in the House, many expected a unified front in support of GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy. Wrong-o!

At the time of the writing of this article, McCarthy lacks the 218 votes necessary to take the gavel, as he faces stark opposition from 20 conservative hardliners.

However, what’s even more shocking is the name of the nominee pushed by those opposed to a McCarthy speakership.

‘Deez Nuts’ has garnered the votes of 20 Republican representatives.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) has led the charge against McCarthy saying, “he is an establishment shill. He talks a big game but Americans are tired of talk.”

He went on to say, “I am confident that Deez Nuts will restore this chamber so it may once again stand erect and proud before the American people.”

The majority in the House GOP have called for Gaetz and other so-called ‘Never Kevin’ members to support McCarthy, but the line is holding firm.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R), one of Kevin McCarthy’s most vocal supporters, has called the effort to elect Deez Nuts ‘ridiculous’ saying, “[Deez Nuts] will never get the majority. We will freeze this movement until it shrivels up and dies.”

Rep. Kevin McCarthy couldn’t be reached for comment, but sources describe his current state as ‘flaccid,’ and ‘wilting.’

Although Deez Nuts has nowhere near the amount of votes needed to comprise a majority, it shows just how fed up some conservative lawmakers are with the status quo.

So, who will be the next Speaker of the House? Almost certainly not Kevin McCarthy.

Perhaps a Harambe speakership could gain popular support.

*Update: After the fifth vote, Kevin McCarthy failed yet again to gain the support of the majority of House members needed to win the speakership. Deez Nuts failed as well.
